El Paredon is Guatemala's most popular and fastest-growing surf town. Its black volcanic sand beach boasts an uncrowded beach break suitable for both beginners and experienced surfers. The waves are generally friendly from November to April and can become larger and more challenging from May to October. Access is easy and frequent from major tourist destinations such as Guatemala City, Antigua, Atitlán, and even El Salvador.
Please be careful when entering the ocean. There are large, strong tides that even experienced swimmers can struggle with. If they get sucked into a rip current, they swim parallel to the beach until they escape the current, and then swim back to shore.
Remember, if in doubt, don't go out.
The accommodation offers on-site parking if you bring your own vehicle. El Paredon is a small, safe town, and most parking is on the street or tuk-tuks are available, but the vast majority of guests and residents get around on foot.
When arriving by land (from Escuintla/ Puerto San Jose/ El Salvador)
Turn left at the first street immediately after the first speed bump. (There's a small shop on the right.) Turn left again at the first street and then continue on the same road, which curves right and then left, parallel to the beach. The property is the last house at the end of the road (about 150 meters).
When arriving by ferry (from Mexico/Lake Atitlan)
Drive straight down the main road (only paved road through the town) past the hotel area and turn right at the last street in town (just before the last speed bump). Then turn left at the first street and continue on the same road, which curves right and then left, parallel to the beach. The property is the last house at the end of the street (approximately 150 m).
El Paredon is a small, growing village, and the infrastructure is not yet perfect. Therefore, power outages can occur during the rainy season and peak season (New Year's, Christmas, Easter). In such cases, we will also have no water.
Our house has a deliberately open design and a traditional thatched roof ("rancho"), which contributes to its special charm and natural atmosphere. Please note that bats may occasionally be found in thatched-roof houses in tropical regions. During the rainy season, the straw may also have a slight damp smell – this is perfectly natural and part of the authentic experience.
--- We have a very sweet little cat named Pablo who takes care of vermin in the house.
